No strangers to life changing adventures overseas, Yvonne and Christoph first met in Norway during an international exchange programme at University. Kindred spirits and minds, they both studied Electrical and Mechatronics Engineering – a pair of smarty pants, indeed. And so before long, this clever duo were squaring personal algorithms, connecting friendship modules and building a lasting love that would span the world!

For this strikingly beautiful, kind natured and fun-loving couple, their wedding in Italy was a celebration of the strong bonds they share with their cultures, their friends and their families, including their dog, Mocha. Why a destination wedding?

First of all, we love traveling and love to give an excuse for our guest to travel. We also have family and friends between Europe, Asia and USA, so Italy is a perfect middle point for everyone to gather.

Why the Cinque Terre in Italy?

Needless to say, Cinque Terre is a very unique village. It is cosy and has lots of great Italian food! Every corner is postcard-pretty.  Born in Hong Kong, I wanted to get married somewhere near the ocean. Growing up in the alps, Christoph has special feelings for mountains. Cinque Terre happens to offer both the hilly and ocean scenery. Another main reason is the location, it is just a few hours drive away from Austria which is convenient for Christoph’s side of the guests. As for oversee guests, Cinque Terre is located right in the middle of many major cities in Italy such as Florence and Pisa. It is a perfect stopover town for the guests’ trip around Europe.

How was the planning process?

The planning process was super easy. Most of the planning is done via email. And if we need any immediate response, Justina was always ready to take our questions. Justina and Melina are also very organized with all the wedding event organization so we never had to worry about forgetting some details. The process starts with all the big decision such as venue and meals, followed by music and photography and finishing with pre/post wedding activities.

Best part of your wedding in Italy?

If we have to pick, definitely the aperitivo right after the ceremony. The food and the atmosphere with the band was just amazing. Every guest praised the wedding like it was a wedding from the movies. We also had a great wrap of the day by going to the beach with all the guests who survived the party!

Top Tip for future Cinque Terre Wedding Brides and Grooms?

Just sit back and relax on your day. Don’t get too excited in Cinque Terre and party too hard the day before the wedding, so that you can still enjoy your wedding without being hangover. If the wedding will take place in summer, make sure the guests reserve rooms with air conditioning.

Owner of Speakeasy Digital, Casey, and Real Estate Broker of Mizner Residential Realty, Jeremy, were officially the first couple in the world to be married on this spot.

So this successful, strong loving couple, who have a streak of cheeky humour in all they do, not only sealed their vows but also history, promising to protect each other from outdoor sprinklers, love each other for their dance moves and attend at least one baseball game per year.

This incredible Italian seaside wedding in the Cinque Terre, surrounded by family and friends, was the result of an incredible seven-year romance that started with a simple knock on a friend’s neighbour’s door.

It was a knock by Casey that was answered by Jeremy and an awkward and quick conversation followed (Jeremy had been in the middle of cooking lunch at the time). However, it was a knock that would have a resounding effect on both their lives. The very next day Jeremy tracked Casey down on Facebook, asked her out and the rest is history!

A few years later, on a three-week holiday to Italy, in a restaurant in the medieval town of Assisi, following a cooking class where they were set to taste the fruits of their labour, Jeremy told Casey he had a question for her. Then, to the tunes of Barry White playing somewhere in the background, Jeremy popped the question. Due to shock, Casey barely remembers what was said at the time, but she does remember that she giggled nervously in response and quoted LeBron James “It’s about damn time”, before saying yes!

Lucky for them, Casey and Jeremy decided to return to Italy, choosing the Cinque Terre as the spectacular backdrop for their Italian seaside wedding.

Lucky for us, Casey and Jeremy have agreed to share their great top tips and jaw dropping pics taken by Pure Photography, so we can all enjoy what it was like for them to take the plunge.

Why a destination wedding?

We wanted something special, unique and intimate. With friends and family all over the U.S., many people were going to have to travel anyway. We’ve never met a person who dislikes Italy, and we couldn’t think of anything better than three days in Cinque Terre with our favourite people.

Why the Cinque Terre in Italy?

It’s absolutely gorgeous, laid back, and the food is amazing. We also chose Monterosso because it’s a nice sized town to host 30 friends. It’s small enough where we can see each other around town, but large enough if you want a little privacy.

How was the planning process?

The planning process was easy because we had a great planner that put us at ease. Planning a destination wedding definitely isn’t for everyone- if you want to be in control of every little detail, it’s probably not for you. Normally I’m a control freak, but I chose not to make myself crazy over wedding planning, and let Melina and our vendors take care of everything. Italy never disappoints—everything is always delicious and beautiful- so I trusted that my wedding would turn out perfect (and it did)!

Best part of your Italian seaside wedding?

It’s hard to choose. I loved our unique ceremony on the rocks, walking through the town, and just being surrounded by our best friends and family in Italy.

Top Tip for future Cinque Terre Wedding Brides and Grooms?

During the planning process, my best advice is to just communicate with Melina as much as you need to. If you are unsure about something, just ask, and she will put you at ease!

Once we arrived in Cinque Terre, the three days with our friends and family went so fast. Just sit back, take it all in, and enjoy yourselves. Everything is as it should be!

Maggie and Ben are two designer aficionados from California USA. Architect Maggie has a background in designing high end luxury homes, while as an entrepreneur, Ben has one of his companies, Bulletproof Automotive, focused on making cars look better and run faster.

This couple share a fast-paced life and a furious love of travel and food. So, not surprisingly cyber cupid, Match.com, found them to be the perfect match.

Keeping true to their travelling spirit, Ben proposed to Maggie in balmy Bali where they celebrated their engagement exploring the tropical island for two whole weeks – ow, so, dreamy.

So for their interfaith Jewish wedding a destination wedding was an easy choice. Only question was where? Where could they treat their family and friends not only to one of their favorite places in the world, but also enjoy truly amazing cuisine?

Cue, the Cinque Terre, Italy.

From the moment this excited couple contacted us at Cinque Terre Wedding their vision was clear: they loved the natural spirit of the Cinque Terre and at the top of their wish list were peonies for Maggie and scampi crudo (raw langoustine) for Ben. This warm-hearted couple also had their guests interests at front of mind throughout. And all these elements were in abundance for this beautiful couple who celebrated their day with special interfaith Jewish wedding traditions and features, like having their fathers as the celebrants, the Chuppah (pronounced hoopah – took us a while to get that one right :)) and the Challah bread, made right here in Italy.

So we’ve asked Maggie and Ben to share their top 5 tips and 5 and bit favourite pics on their interfaith Jewish wedding in the Cinque Terre. Prepare to do some “O” mouth movements over the coral and gold colour palette and watch out for those stunning peonies – yes, they really were that big and beautiful.

Why destination & why Cinque Terre?

During my 2003 study abroad in Florence, I discovered and fell in love with Cinque Terre. The beauty of the Cinque Terre’s colorful coastal villages held a special place in my heart, and I always knew that I would someday return. Years later, as Ben and I fell in love, I knew I wanted to share this special place of mine.

Ben and I share a deep passion for travel; over the 10 years we dated, we have shared incredible journeys all over the world. Our love of travel and adventure made it clear that an exotic destination wedding best suited us and told our story. Over years of our travels, we considered everything from cherry blossom season in Kyoto, to taking over a cruise ship in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, for our wedding. We wanted to create a special experience that was truly “us”. In the end, it was the same beauty that I originally found in Cinque Terre that captured our focus and became our special wedding destination.

With family from all over the US, we knew we were asking a lot of them to travel so far for the wedding. We also made them wait out 10 years of our relationship for this moment in marriage. We couldn’t let them down; we wanted an epic wedding adventure, and that is what we set out to create. Since we live in Venice Beach, California we couldn’t possibly manage an exceptional destination wedding without an exceptional wedding planner. Thankfully, we found Melina Nicholson of Cinque Terre Wedding. From our first introduction emails to the final dance at our wedding, Melina worked tirelessly to be sure every detail of our vision was brought to life.

We considered a number of locations in Cinque Terre, but it was the raw natural beauty of Buranco Vineyard in Monterosso that made our venue decision ultimately an easy choice. Between dancing alongside 1,000 year-old original city walls, walking through the beautiful olive trees, looking out to ocean views, and enjoying the wine from the vines running up and down the picturesque elevations of the estate, we knew that it would not only check off every wish list item we had for our family and friends to enjoy, but that it would also provide some amazing photos to look back on.

How was the planning process?

I am a self-admitted control freak, so planning a wedding 6,000 miles away mostly via email, with a few Skype calls (without ever seeing the venue in person!), was challenging for me. At the same time, I knew I had no choice but to let go a little and just trust that Melina would pull it all together. When our wedding weekend arrived, I knew we were in good hands as soon as we arrived at our Thursday evening welcome drinks/aperitivo, and things just got better from there! Melina and her team have a keen eye for design, and the ability to, with a few Pinterest photos, pull together a stunning vision. I was most concerned about the flowers, as someone who loves flowers and has dabbled in floral design as a hobby over the years. Melina did not disappoint; the flowers for our rehearsal dinner were stunning and just what I had envisioned, and the wedding flowers were over the top. In my wildest dreams, my bouquet was never as big and stunning as it ended up being! Everything, from start to finish, was an absolute dream.

Best part of your day?

It’s hard to pick my favorite part of the best day of my life! From the moment I woke up, it all felt like a dream! But if I had to pick one moment, it would probably be our First Look. After hours of getting ready, I finally slipped into my dress and shoes and walked (I may have floated?) over to the Olive Grove at Buranco, where my love was waiting. Having those first moments together to take it all in before all the excitement started was really special.

Top Tips for future CT Brides & Grooms?

During wedding planning, my best advice is to just communicate with Melina as much as you need to. If you are unsure about something, just ask, and she will put you at ease! Also, make lists early. As the wedding day got closer and everything started to come together, I was very glad I had made lists early so I already knew what needed to be done and packed. It helped make those last few weeks much smoother, as the stress level was definitely high while we finished last-minute wedding things, but also wrapped up work in preparation of being away for three weeks.

Once in Cinque Terre, everything went so fast, but it was all so beautifully orchestrated. By the time you get to Cinque Terre, most everything has already been set in motion, so my best advice is to try to relax and enjoy your time with your family and friends. It will be over in the blink of an eye, so try to take a few minutes throughout the day/weekend to pause and just take it all in!

Following their destination wedding in Monterosso, the most northern medieval village of the Cinque Terre, Wylie and David’s wedding was reported in wedding media greats including Wedding Chicks and La Bride, reaching an audience of 4.7 million worldwide.

And to top it off, Wylie and David’s best man, James Trethewie, recently won hearts in the Australian Bachelorette stating that Cinque Terre Wedding had thrown the best wedding he’d ever been to! Pretty spesh!

So, we are super excited to have the fun spirited couple, Wylie and David, share their love story, top tips, favourite pics and video trailer of their destination wedding in Italy, giving future brides and grooms a great insight into what it’s like to plan a destination wedding in the Cinque Terre.

For clever legal eagles, Wylie and David, it all began during an internship at an Australian legal firm where David admitted that Wylie was his “clerkship crush”. From crush to lifetime companion, David popped the big question at his family’s retreat, Crystal Palace in the Byron Bay Hinterlands, Australia. Surrounded by the world’s biggest and most beautiful crystals, David got down on one knee and asked Wylie to be his “Mrs Thorpe”.

And, so began their adventure into the ever after.

We first met the genetically blessed loved up couple on their way to London. They had plans to take working abroad to a whole new level – work two years in London and then fly home via a destination wedding in Italy on the Cinque Terre. The best long-haul trip we’d ever heard of!

So, we got to work straight away to create a bespoke destination wedding in a vineyard that had rustic chic charm to reflect the couple’s natural beauty and warm nature, and then spritzed it up with a touch of elegance for their cleverness.

Why a destination wedding? 

We thought that having a destination wedding was the perfect way to celebrate the biggest day in our lives. We wanted a small, intimate wedding surrounded by those closest to us. We had been living in London for 2 years, and thought that getting married on the way home to Australia would be the most amazing way to top off our 2 years of love and adventure!

Why the Cinque Terre for a destination wedding in Italy?

Dave visited the Cinque Terre when he was younger and always had an affinity with the region. When we first arrived in Europe in 2014 we travelled through the Cinque Terre and immediately fell in love with the place, particularly Buranco Vineyard in Monterosso! After meeting Melina and realising that a wedding here was possible, we knew that this was the perfect place to say “I do”!

How was the planning process?

Melina was amazing. In the lead-up to the big day we had regular skype calls to sort out the details, which were easy to tick off and very well organised. We were lucky enough to visit from London once or twice to visualise how everything would look. Everything was handled with ease by Melina – from our strange request for a french-inspired cake to satisfying our ultimate ‘italian wedding fantasy’  and parading through the town to the cheers of the villagers!!

Best part of your day?

The best (and scariest) part of the day was standing up on the terrace above Buranco Vineyard, with the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop, in front of all of our nearest and dearest family and friends who had flown from every corner of the globe and saying “I do”. Also… the amazing food and drink was a major plus! Seeing the look on everyone’s faces when we began our choreographed dance was another highlight!

Top Tip for future Cinque Terre Wedding Brides and Grooms?

Relax. Everything will happen exactly how you plan in your head. Melina and all of the people around her (including her awesome husband Matteo!) are amazing, and can sort out any issues that may pop up. Due to the location, the suppliers are limited for certain things (and can lead to some obvious costs), but Melina can sort anything out, and in the end while things like hair and makeup may be a little more expensive that what you expect “back home” other costs are a lot lower (such as food and drink). Also, practice a little italian before you arrive!

A wedding planner is not a wedding stylist. In fact they are two very different professions that involve different areas of expertise and even use different parts of the brain. Did you know stylists tap into the creative right side of their brain in order to make your day look and feel beautiful while planners tap into the anaylitical left side of the brain to make sure all the important details move in a sequential order?

For instance, a wedding stylist will create a table for you that will evoke emotions perhaps making you feel happy using bright colours and relaxed by using the textures you love best while a planner will look at the same table and start counting candles, tables, chairs, adding up costs and thinking how the heck will we transport those decorations onto the site?

So when looking for a wedding planner and stylist in Italy best be mindful that despite Jennifer Lopez’s version of the Wedding Planner, a wedding planner is not always a stylist and a wedding stylist is not always a planner.

3. Scan real wedding photos

The best way to judge if a wedding stylist in Italy is the best fit for you is by looking at their past work through real wedding features and photos. You may find that the wedding stylist has a constant aesthetic design that you love and works perfectly with your desired style or you may find that they have a great eclectic style which often means they will be able to adapt to your style whatever it is.

The key is to focus on real wedding photos not styled shoots. Styled shoots should be used for inspiration only as often set up time, equipment used, flower compositions, decoration placement and photo editing can create an unrealistic and unachievable style for a real wedding scenario. The use of fake flowers to combine summer and winter flowers together, taper candles outdoors in front of the sea, floral compositions that will block your guests’ line of view when eating at the table, are just a few examples of unworkable designs featured in styled shoots. Don’t get us wrong, we love styled shoots, we would eat them for breakfast everyday if we could as they do give us our daily dose of dreamy inspiration. But a styled shoot is more about what a stylist would like to achieve, if all reality and logistics was placed to the side. In comparison the best way to find examples of the stylists work is through their real wedding photos as they are just that – real – a real demonstration of the stylist’s work and key to finding a top wedding stylist in Italy.

4. Go local

When looking for a wedding stylist in Italy the best place to look is right next to your venue for a local stylist. Who better to know what flowers are available at each time of year (too hot for peonies in August in the Cinque Terre), what time the sun will fall (early sunset means longer lasting candles needed), what way the wind will blow (no origami rice paper name cards flying all over your reception).

The local stylist will also have their own collection of decorative pieces like vases, candle holders, linens and light installations that can be brought in and used with minimal delivery and hire fees. Better still they will be able to speak Italian to be able to source and supply any additional or custom pieces you require.

And we’re doing this by shouting arms stretched from the coloured rooftops: “Ging Gang Goolee – wedding planner winners two years in a row!”

We’re filling every piazza encounter with a subtle “did you know we’re in the top five percent of wedding professionals in Italy?” In Italian of course: “Sai che noi siamo nel primo 5 per cento dei professionisti di nozze in Italia?”

And we’re running up the cobbled roads into the local florist, hairdresser, makeup artist, caterer, vineyard, hermitage, castle ruins, restaurant, bar, video operator, photographer, stylist, musician, bnb and then down to the harbour to the boat skipper, taxi, fisherman and miniscule truck driver (the truck, not the driver) to let them all know – “we’ve received a five star rating from all of our couples!”

And “we” is right – at Cinque Terre Wedding it takes a village to raise a wedding.

But we aren’t just running around the quiet village, saluting too many glasses of limoncino, we are serious wedding planners after all, so we’ve also been dreaming about what an event celebrating this award would look like.

Australians Sabrina and Jarrad, met eight years ago at the birthday party of a friend who would one day become their Maid-of-Honor.

As a second generation Italian, Sabrina and her fiancé Jarrad, decided to return to her family’s homeland to celebrate their wedding. And how excited we and the locals were when this beautiful couple brought a bit of the Great Gatsby Glamour to the old world of Vernazza.

And not only did they bring glamour they also brought their best friends.

Six Friends and an Italian Wedding!

Sabrina and Jarrad and their friends were travelling together and had travelled together before and so there was a beautiful strong bond between them. Wherever they went during the pre/post wedding activities and the wedding they had a ball. And because it was just their best friends they were able to treat everyone to the best of the Cinque Terre, with their ceremony on a cliff top terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the reception on a private terrace in one of the best restaurants and a private boat trip with top Cinque Terre wine and music from local artists who have performed with Sting and Robbie Williams!

It made for a very intimate, emotional and special day where they laughed from start to finish – and so did we!

Why a destination wedding? We didn’t initially know we wanted a destination wedding however we wanted to make it the most memorable for us and after doing the research, we knew it was exactly what we wanted.

Why the Cinque Terre in Italy? We didn’t have anything in mind till my Maid-of-Honor showed us pictures of the Cinque Terre but more specifically Vernazza. Let me just say “we fell in love”.

How was the planning process? Trying to find a wedding planner was easy, but a planner that would make our wedding a Fairytale was hard. Until we found Cinque Terre wedding. I knew from the first email that Melina was going to make that happen. The process was easier than planning the holiday/honeymoon we had before and after it. She knew exactly what we wanted and went above and beyond to make it a dream.

What was the best part of your Cinque Terre Wedding in Italy? Hard to say as it was all amazing, even the wine tasting we did the day before that Melina organised was incredible. The reception we choose provided the most exquisite food that no one will be able to replicate and not to mention the venue which overlooked the five towns and the beautiful sea. Everyone who was part of the day made it the best.

Top Tip for future Cinque Terre Wedding Brides and Grooms? No need to stress, Cinque Terre wedding will ensure that everything is planned to a T and any changes can be dealt with quickly. I asked the band to sing only traditional Italian music after hearing them on the day, which was not planned. They were delighted at the request.
